St. Peter's Church is set in the village of Thornton, on a hill overlooking the picturesque reservoir.

This old and beautiful church, of medieval origin dates from the 13th century and is Grade 1 listed. It holds a unique place in the county, and its contents are of great historical interest. Medieval stained glass, linen fold pews from 1560, a working clock over 400 years old, a mid Victorian organ recently completely refurbished are just a few of its assets. These features survive today because, fortunately, no restoration was carried out during the Victorian era. St. Peter's has a peal of three bells.

Sunday services include Holy Communion, Morning Prayer and All Age Worship, each followed by tea and coffee. There is a mid-week daytime informal Communion Service on the fourth Wednesday of each month and a Beta Bible Basics group which regularly meets in a local home.
